Top California OL/DL picks Stanford over Cal, USC

As National Signing Day unfolded, Stanford's recruiting class got a huge boost from late commitments from three top rated linemen. After Andrus Peat (No. 8 overall prospect) and Kyle Murphy (No. 41 overall prospect) both announced their plans to join the Cardinal, head coach David Shaw wrapped his 2012 recruiting class with OL/DL Aziz Shittu.

Shittu, a 6-foot-3, 275 pound lineman from Atwater, Calif., chose Stanford over USC and Cal, among other schools. A fast and physical force on the defensive side of the ball, Shittu will be able to create competition immediately on the practice field at several difference positions. Difference scouting services have listed as an offensive lineman, defensive tackle, and defensive end. Regardless of position, Shittu's status as a top prospect is unanimous.

While the fallout from Stanford's Fiesta Bowl loss included questions about a potential drop-off from their recent success, the 2012 recruiting class finishes as arguably one of the best in the nation. David Shaw brings in six players from Tom Lemming's Top 100, adding his name alongside Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Jimbo Fisher as the only coaches to do so in 2012.
