Tracy Howard, one of the top cornerbacks in the 2012 class, announced his intentions to sign with Miami.

"I chose the University of Miami because I looked at the overall picture of it from an academic standpoint to an opportunity standpoint," Howard said in a live announcement on ESPN.  "I had a great bond with the coaches. Why not win in my hometown, in my city. Why not do it there?"

Howard narrowed his choices to the Florida, Florida State, and the Hurricanes before making his decision known on National Signing Day. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound cornerback from Mirmar (Fla.) High School is considered by many to be one of the top cover corners in the class, and arguably the top recruit in the state of Florida. For the three Sunshine State powerhouses, Howard was one of the top in-state targets.

"[Howard] shows above average acceleration and change of direction," says Tom Lemming. "He closes quickly on the ball and is not overly aggressive or physical against the run, he's more of a cover corner with very good instincts."

Howard joins a Hurricanes class currently ranked No. 6 in the CBS Sports National Signing Day Top 25. Keep up with all the latest announcements around the nation throughout the day at Signing Day Central.

It's not the matter of sanctions.... kids don't care anymore about penalties to their school.  They are more concerned about going to the NFL then winning a national title....and of course Miami is still the best product of producing NFL talent.

But yes, I agree the sanctions will be light.  The money they paid back so the NCAA can't talk to any previous students who aren't enrolled is huge.  Basically implies that NCAA can't prove any of that nonsense occured.  Innocent until proven guilty and can't be guilty with no facts and the ability to contact them.

i agree! If the top corner in the country has chosen Miami, along with all the other possible top 100 recruits, then the Canes coaching staff must know that the NCAA is not going to be as strict as we all believe they will. I hope not! Keep recruiting! LET'S GO CANES! New regime and a new attitude!!!! Lovin it!

What a great pick-up!  Great job by Golden and staff on this class.  With all the uncertainty hovering over the program right now, this is a really amazing thing to behold.  It also gives me some hope that maybe they think the sanctions won't be too bad after all...
