SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Charlotte (N.C.) linebacker Nick Dawson is one of the top players on the East Coast but will be playing college football a little more in the middle of the country, announcing Saturday at the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl that he was committing to Louisville."I'm going to go back home to my home state," Dawson said. "I just wanted to pick my school and where is going to be the best fit for me. It's not where you play and it's how you progress and I'm going to take my talents to Louisville."
The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder is a huge pickup for head coach Charlie Strong and indicative of how far he has elevated the program. Dawson can play either inside or outside but is ranked by Maxpreps as the 10th best outside linebacker in the class of 2012.
"He's a sideline to sideline type of backer, shows good speed, instincts, and the ability to read QB's," analyst Tom Lemming said. "Film shows him dominating at both the end and tackle positions."
Dawson selected Louisville over Clemson and N.C. State.
