Although UCLA just let head coach Rick Neuheisel go, the school still offers a good education, BCS program and the sunny locale of Los Angeles as a backdrop. It was mostly the latter couple of things that New Rochelle (N.Y.) cornerback Justin Combs saw in the Bruins and despite the idea of playing for a new coach, decided to announce that he had committed late Monday night.

“It was love at first sight,” Combs told Scout. “When I first went on a visit, I fell in love with the program and I fell in love with the environment and the tradition. I was good friends with Rahim Moore too and just to hear it from the players, it was love at first sight."

A 5-foot-9, 170-pound cornerback, Combs performed well over the summer at 7-on-7 competitions and camps and held scholarship offers from school such as Illinois, Iowa, Virginia and others. Though he has lived out East close to his father, rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs, the West Coast lifestyle and chance to play Pac-12 football was just too good to pass up despite a coaching change.

“I have faith in the program that everything will be ok,” said Combs. “My love for UCLA is so strong. I trust and know that everything will work out.”

Combs will play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in January along with close friend, linebacker Deaysean Rippy. He gives the Bruins 17 commitments for the class of 2012 and becomes the fifth member of the secondary coming in next year.

"Not real tall but very quick and elusive," analyst Tom Lemming said of Combs. "Last year he put together a heck of a season at the CB position showing the ability to turn and run with the swiftest of receivers."

Justin Combs, son of Diddy, commits to UCLA

UCLA's training facilities are light years ahead of the New Rochelle high school Justin is coming from. I want to see how Justin performs after having an entire summer of workouts at UCLA's facilities before making any judgments
Its not like he is some kid from the streets who could only use his highschools gym.  Im pretty sure his multi-millionaire father had him working out is some pretty sweet facilities over the years.

Not a good tackler at all. Almost all shoulder tackles.
Deion Sanders was not much of a tackler but he had a Hall of Fame career. I am not comparing Justin to Deion because that would be an unfair comparison and burden to put on Justin.

The thing that everybody needs to keep in mind is that Justin is 18 years of age. UCLA's training facilities are light years ahead of the New Rochelle high school Justin is coming from. I want to see how Justin performs after having an entire summer of workouts at UCLA's facilities before making any judgments.
No picks either, I think he received a scholarship because of who he is.
Can't forget about the revenues (e.g. jersey sales, increased television ratings, etc.) he will generate for UCLA's men's football from the attention paid to him because of his dad, Diddy. This was a business deal beneficial to both sides.
He has a LOT of work to do to make it in Div. 1 football.
Agreed.
Good luck to him.
I extend my well wishes to him as well.

OK, I just a had chance to see his tape.
I was a 3 year starter on a BCS conference team that only loss 4 games in 3 years.  Never finished outside the top 3 nationally.

This kid is a player.  He is well ahead of most DB that show up as freshmen inregard to his footwork.  He has exceptional change of direction and excellaration.  He will hit, and knows what type of tackle to make depending on the play and player.  He will stick his nose in the action.

I will say this, if he goes to work on the weights as soon as his football is over with and add weight, I don't what UCLA has, but he could start or at the worst push for a position as a freshmen.

There are teams that are sleeping on him.  I wouldnt be surprise if his list of schools don't increase as team look at his tape because of his commitment to UCLA, and they are without a coach.  Keep an eye on his recruiting list.

Negatives?  His size. Right now.

If he was 2 inches taller he would possibly go anywhere on the map. Weight? If he gets in the weight room, weight shouldnt be a problem, and the kid looks committed to football, so I expect he will.
Growth? He still could add height, looking at his dad, but even if he doesn't and he puts on 15 lbs. of bulk, he could star in college.
You would be surprise of the size of some of the star in the NFL.
Unknown?

I only saw his cover deep once on the tape and most of his routes he covered were outside cuts or trade routes in zone coverage.
If he has good speed 4.55 or lower he will be a better than average cover guy because he has above average quickness and change of direction.

What kind of athlete is he?  If your are his size, it helps if you can jump a little bit.

Need?

Not to get hurt early.  He may never recover because he is small.  If he went to a lower D level school and gave his body a chance to develope, I have no doubt that he would have a chance to play beyond college.

Guys, don't hate.  Follow this kid.  He really does have a legit chance to be a star.

Best choice of university in the world.  Prestigious, strong academics, outstanding arts (theater, music, film), beautiful location (surrounded by Brentwood, Bel-Air and Holmby Hills), prefect weather, beaches and mountains in view of the dorms, and beautiful girls (blows away any of the top 50 universities except SC).  Ten minutes to the beach and the Whisky.  If you're rich and you have to go to school, hard to beat.

Only problem is you have to play SC and Oregon every year.

well he looks like he can at least tackle but playing 10-15 yards off the line of scrimmage every play makes me wonder about his speed and coverage skills. Worst case he gets a good degree from UCLA and then works for his father. Sounds like a good deal to me!

Happened to see an interview with this guy and puffy.  He was asked to compare himself to an nfl CB, and he picked a hybrid of Deion, Asante Samuels, and Darrelle Revis.

LMAO..., some of you guys on this thread sound like bonafied HATERS!!!! I watched the tape, and saw a decent prospect that might have some potential. I think most of you saw "son of Diddy", and let your hatred of a man that you don't even know cloud your judgement. I see people talking about his size. There are NFL players that size. Asante Samuels is about that size, and if he's bigger it's not by much. Plenty of college kids have entered school that size, and have flourished. I'm sure that the strength program at UCLA will add some pounds to Justin's frame. You internet critics are funny, and sound like bitter woman. Hating on another girl because she wore the same dress as you to an event, but looked way better!
