Two top recruits from Carver Columbus High in Columbus, Georgia and a third unidentified person were arrested and charged with theft on Monday, according to Georgia police.

Cornerback Deion Bonner, athlete Marquis Hawkins and an unidentified juvenile were arrested after being accused of stealing iPods and iPhones from the football locker room at Georgia's Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall during an open-house event on April 7th. It is estimated that the trio took an estimated $1,330 worth of items.

The 5-foot-11, 190 pound Bonner is considered to be one of the top players in Georgia and might be the second best cornerback in the state. He was charged with one count of theft by taking. Hawkins is the twin brother of Marqui Hawkins, a 6-foot-1, 200 pound athlete who plays quarterback in high school but is considered to be a 2013 receiver prospect. Marquise was charged with two counts of theft by taking while the third unidentified person was charged with three counts. The crime is considered a misdemeanor.

University police chief Jimmy Williamson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the arrests were brought about by, “good investigation, people’s involvement and Facebook is always a big help.”

Williamson also said police obtained search warrants on the three suspects last week followed by arrests warrants being issued on Friday.

Bonner was being heavily recruited by several schools and held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina and USC. Sources at several of the programs confirmed to that Bonner would have his offer rescinded and would no longer be recruited by the school. He was considered a Georgia lean but obviously has much more to deal with than where he might play college football.

Updated: Carver coach Dell McGee told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Marquise Hawkins is the twin brother of Marqui Hawkins, who is the 2013 wide receiver prospect.

Recruits arrested for stealing at UGA

The funniest part of this thread is the total lack of reading comprehension shown by the commentors. Certainly these high school students, one of whom was a well sought after recruit, were idiots. But several of you commenters are equally stupid based on your comments. Let me see if I can assist you:

- Bonner wasn't a top player AT the Univ of Georgia ... he was "one of the top players in Georgia."

- Yes, he was a UGa recruit ... he also had offers at a variety of other storied programs in the ACC, SEC and Pac-12.

- This isn't an SEC thing ... they criminals live in the state of Georgia, they don't go to school at UGa, and at least one of them had offers from schools in a variety of conferences.

- The twins are Marquise and Marqui ... not Marquis and Deion.

I take back that the funniest part of the thread are the maroons commenting ... it has to be parents who name their twins Marquise and Marqui.

Okay. let me see, last names Hawkins and Bonner? And they are twins? Maybe if Daddy was around to be a Father, this may of not happened. Seems like someone would teach them "not to steal from the hand that feeds you". Sad story.

As most of the SEC schools have learned. Football cannot erase a complete lack of ethics, common sense, and years of no / bad parenting. We'd all like to think that at some point schools will actually grade on character and not recruit thugs, but the reality is every chanpionship team in the modern era has been loaded with thugs because thugs win.

Name ten thugs that have played for USC recently. And before anyone says Reggie Bush he was greedy but I would not consider the guy a thug. USC actually has done well with African Americans who could fill the student part of student athlete.

But if you call Matt Barkley, Mitch Mustain, Carson Palmer, Clay Mathews, Taylor Mays, Chris Galipo, Robert Woods, type of guys thugs that's your thing. They all seem to be doing fine and school and haven't ever stole anything.

Matter fact Reggie Bush has been the only real offender to where a USC jersey in a long time.
