Les Miles got unexpected - but welcome - news shortly before the LSU Spring Game on Saturday with the commitment of New Orleans (La.) cornerback Dwayne Thomas.

"This is the place I felt I needed to be. This is my home state," Thomas told "I feel like I'm the missing piece on this defense to help LSU win national championships again."

The 6-foot-1, 170 pound corner broke the news directly to Miles and the the Tigers' head coach could not have been much happier with his decision.

"I told him I'm committing and want to be a Tiger. He was so excited that I made that decision and he was excited to have me now in the program," Thomas told the website. "He said it was like getting (current Tigers defensive back) Tyrann Mathieu all over again. Coach Miles talked about how he loves the fact that I am a big and physical cornerback."

Thomas is the ninth commitment for the Tigers in the class of 2012 and the first defensive back in the class.
