You figured Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville would continue to go back to the fertile South Florida recruiting ground where he once made his name as a Miami assistant coach. The Red Raiders signed two players in the class of 2011 from the Miami area and added their first for the class of 2012 on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) linebacker Erick Hallmon.

It's no surprise the 6-foot-1, 190 pound Hallmon wanted to play for Tuberville after he coached his father several years ago. Former Cardinal Gibbons high school teammate Shawn Corker is currently a freshman for Tuberville and an assistant on Hallmon's high school team is a Texas Tech alum.

Hallmon could play at either safety or linebacker once he gets to Lubbock

The staff wasn't done with Hallmon's commitment however, as Snyder (Texas) athlete Kennon Ward verbally pledged to attend Texas Tech Sunday evening.

"I like the location and the coaches, they're real understandable," Ward told RedRaiderSports.com. "They're real cool."

Ward and Hallmon did not hold any other scholarship offers outside of one from Texas Tech. They are the second and third commitments for Tuberville's class of 2012.
