Auburn wasn't the only SEC school to pick up a commitment Saturday night as Georgia added Moultrie (Ga.) tight end Ty Smith to their class of 2012. The Bulldogs hosted a Junior Day today and that is when Smith decided to make things official.
“I already knew that I was going to commit before I got there,” Smith told Scout.com. “I was confident about the decision. I had been thinking about it for about a week. I have thought about it for a while now. So I didn’t have any hesitation to go to school at Georgia.”
The 6-foot-3, 230 pound Smith is similar to current Bulldog Orson Charles coming out of high school in that he is more of a receiver than a blocking tight end. He had 42 catches for 576 yards last season.
Smith also held an offer from Florida but the unofficial visit and the fact that he was a Georgia fan growing up made the decision easy.
“They have a great business program there,” he told the website. “I want to be a part of their football program. I grew up a Dawg fan.”
Smith is the fifth commit for Georgia in the class of 2012 and joins two other receivers committed to head coach Mark Richt.
