Timing, especially when it comes to two longtime rivals, is everything. Just ask Notre Dame and USC fans. Hours after the Irish picked up commitment number one for the class of 2012, USC picked up commitment number five in Downey (Calif.) linebacker Jabari Ruffin.

Perhaps a bit of strategic timing for the Trojans but for Ruffin, the timing just felt right to him.

"I verbally committed to USC today," Ruffin told "I just wanted to find a place that felt like hom. SC just felt right, it felt like family. I think I made a good choice."

The 6-foot-4, 230 pound Ruffin commits at a time when USC needs linebackers after two starters from last season graduated and there are two upperclassmen penciled in to start this upcoming year. Although Ruffin's size could allow him to grow into a defensive end, the coaching staff told him he will be suiting up at linebacker for the Trojans when he arrives on campus next fall.

"It's official that I'll be playing linebacker for USC," Ruffin said. "[Linebackers coach Joe Barry] actually said I remind him of number seven from Arizona State (Vontaze Burfict)."

Ruffin took an unofficial visit this past weekend before committing and will be back for USC's upcoming Junior Day.
