Sometimes, you can make a pretty good guess where certain recruits will end up at. Oklahoma City (Okla.) wide receiver Sterling Shepard was one such recruit in the class of 2012, verbally committing to Oklahoma Monday morning.

Sterling had two uncles play for the Sooners and his late father, Derrick, was a former star receiver for Oklahoma in the mid 1980's.

“This is where my heart is,” Sterling told the Oklahoman. “There is great tradition here. My father, my uncles went here. It was time.”

The 5-foot-10, 175 pound receiver is the third commitment for Oklahoma's class of 2012. Shepard is half of a football legacy duo at Heritage High along side teammate Barry Sanders Jr. and played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back last year.

One of the top recruits in the state of Oklahoma, Shepard held offers from Clemson, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and Missouri.

“I went to Oklahoma State, and I talked to some other coaches, and I realized what I wanted,” he said. “I talked about it with my mom and my family in the last couple of days, and they’re all supportive of the decision. It’s close to home, so they can still attend the games. My older sister is at OU, so she’s really happy about it.”

Shepard had 56 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns last year, helping his team to an undefeated record and a state championship.

There is no doubt that sterling is a stud, but for you to say espn is going to give him a 5 star ranking you have lost your mind. They gave 13 kids 5 star ranking in the 2011 class. Brandon Williams didn't get a 5 star ranking. Compare the competion and talent there is no way he is a 5 star, but good player. As far as all your schools are named offering him scholarships isn't even close fl, flst,al, usc, ucla, tx-no offer. Just tired of all the delusional fans (not just ou fans). I meant come on man should we just give everyone that goes to a OU, UT, Bama, UF etc 5 stars.

No problem, scout.com has him as a 3 star, espn.com said he might be a 5 star. I have never liked scout because they never give any recognition to how great the talent in oklahoma is.... ESPN is finally giving them respect. His highschool coach was on the sports animal tulsa radio station and said as soon as the highlight video came out, florida, florida state, texas, alabama, usc and notre dame offered him right there, he is a stud
