After doing a very good job on short notice in his first recruiting class, new Colorado coach Jon Embree is off to a good start with his 2012 class, recently picking up the commitment of defensive end Clay Norgard.

"I'm really excited to get up there and get started," Norgard said in a text message to the Boulder Daily Camera. "I'm so glad that I'm getting the chance to be a part this incredible new program."

The 6-foot-2, 240 pound Norgard racked up 65 tackles and 6.5 sacks in his junior year. He is likely to play linebacker for the Buffs and is hoping to enroll next spring. He is also the first commitment for the Buff's class of 2012.

Norgard's father, Erik, played on the offensive line for Colorado in the late 1980's and was a 10 year NFL veteran.

Colorado gets first pledge of 2012

As an Oklahoma State fan - a Big 12 conference member school I was pretty ticked off to see Colorado leaving but after thinking about it for a while leaving the Big 12 might be the best thing for Colorado; it will give them a fresh start and they will have the upper hand on recruiting for the Pac 12 in areas where scouts haven't ventured before.  Good luck to the Buffs and hopefully all the drama that happened in the past decade is in the long past.

With a new coaching staff, and a new conference, Colorado Football is headed in the right direction.  With one game every season in Los Angeles, look for a major spike in Colorado recruiting.  If the Buffs can somehow manage six wins, and get a bowl bid, this would help even more.  That is a lot to ask for 2011, but by 2012, it may be doable.

I think the Buffs new coaching staff can be a recruiting monster. They have already done a good job of getting a few guys to switch commitments last year. I wish the story would have done a better job of telling us how good the kid is.
